Book Confessions

My favorite book of all time is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

I wanted to be just like Francie Nolan and read all the books in the library, starting from authors who's names start with "A". 

I used to go to Barnes and Noble and write down quotes from my favorite books. My friend and I would spend hours doing this some nights.  

My dad used to leave me at the library as he ran errands. I used to love chilling in the beanbag chairs and reading Choose Your Own Adventure books (the only ones short enough to "finish" before he picked me up). 

My aunt is a librarian. I want to be just like her when I grow up. 

Even when I go camping and have to carry all my things on my back, I always carry a book (and sometimes two!) I carried a book while hiking the Himalayas. 

I own about two dozen Lonely Planet books.

I am a member of two online book clubs.

My first library card was a piece of paper with my name typed on it. I recently went back to my childhood library and asked them if they would still take that one. They made me get a new one (I still have the old one though!) 

My mom is my reading inspiration.

My grandma is too. Plus her house smells good.

I remember going to visit my grandma in Massachusetts in the summertime and we would take a walk to go to the pond to feed the ducks, to the penny candy for some loot, and always to the Library! 

My favorite books I had to read in High School: The Three Musketeers, To Kill a Mockingbird

The Jungle made me become a vegetarian. For 15 years.

Some of my other favorites not from high school: Les Miserables, Hiroshima, Corelli's Mandolin

In 2011 I read 66 books.

I never read the Babysitters Club.

I did read Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and lots of VC Andrews.

My favorite childhood authors/books were probably Beatrix Potter, CS Lewis, Shel Silverstein, Charlotte's Web, Winne the Pooh, and Paddington Bear. 

Childhood Books

This year I have spent $0 on books. That is not to say I haven't WANTED to spend money, but so far, I have abstained.

I went to Oscar Wilde's grave site in Paris.

My brother got me a Kindle for my birthday last year. I love it, but I still love real books!

My next book on deck for reading is  The Snowball: Warren Buffet and the Business of Life by Alice Schroeder. It weighs about 47 pounds. It is NOT on my Kindle. I may need a chiropractor when I am done lugging it around in my purse. Hopefully it will be a quick read. It's only about 700 pages.

I cannot read more than one book at a time. I don't understand people who are reading two or three at once. 

There are 218 titles on my Goodreads "to-read" list. For every one I take off, I add two more.

I read the Red Badge of Courage in Spanish.  It took me about 8 months.

Little Women made me cry the second time I read it. I was on an airplane. It was a little bit embarrassing. 

I do read books more than once.

I have never read Moby Dick. It's on my Kindle though.

I am a late bloomer. I don't usually read books until they have been out for a while (I just read The Handmaidens Tale this year).

I will read anything. I do love a good murder mystery, WWII historical fiction and books that teach me something without being boring.

I am a book hoarder. I recently gave away 4 boxes of books. I still have plenty more.

I just checked 6 books out from the library. It was not on purpose. They were all put on the hold shelf at the same time. I probably will not finish them all before they are due.

I am kind of on a running book kick.  

Current Library Haul -- Run + Buffett

I think I've read almost all of Stephen King, John Grisham and  Elizabeth George's books.

I am currently reading Running on Empty by Marshall Ulrich. I think he is wonderful and strong and inspiring and cocky and annoying and big headed all at once. 

I almost always finish the book I am reading, even if I don't like it. There have only been a couple books I did not finish. One of them was Catch 22. 

I keep a list of the books I've read each year.

Right now the only reading I am doing is on the bus. This equals about a half an hour a day. It is not enough.

I love how the Kindle has a built in dictionary. No more penciling in the margins!

Arnav and Khushi to get to Know of Shyam's Scheming!

After their much awaited union, Arnav (Barun Sobti) and Khushi (Sanaya Irani) are heading towards the new lease of life they have got in Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.

As seen, Arnav has fulfilled all the wedding rituals and the two are all set to lead life like a happily married couple. However, life won’t be a bed of roses for our beloved couple as far Shyam (Abhaas Mehta) is a part of their paradise. For the moment, Arnav and Khushi will be seen taking their marriage to the next level. The two will share some intimate moments together and rejoice in their newly found love.

However, they are not aware of the fact that they are being observed by Shyam who is keeping an eagle eye on them via the cameras he has installed in the Rayzada house. But this fact won’t be hidden from them for long. Soon Arnav will discover the treacherous acts of Shyam and this is when both the love birds will together find out a way of exposing his truth before all.

Last, it was Khushi who had tried hard to bring out Shyam’s truth before all. But this time she will even have the support of Arnav and they will definitely figure out something to make Shyam pay for his bad deeds. Just hope that Anjali (Daljeet Bhanot) too comes out of her blind faith and realizes the true intentions of Shyam!

Well, the plot has now taken an interesting turn and it will be really good to see the bad facing defeat at the hands of the righteous.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon [Episode 354] 1st October 2012 Written Update

Khushi is on the bed and Arnav on top of her and they are having an eye locking session, he then goes to get up and Khushi holds his hand. He sits down, Khushi saying she is upset that Dadi has left, when Dadi came if felt like the whole family was one and now she has left because of her. Arnav says a family is only a family when there is acceptance if Dadi was here there wouldn't be. Khushi apologises and Arnav states its not her fault.

We see that Shyam is watching them on camera, Anjali then comes in asking what he is doing, he replies he is doing work, she tells him to sleep as he might be tired. Anjali starts talking about the wedding, Shyam says he is busy with work and Anjali leaves him to it. He goes back to watching Khushi and Arnav. He states he has not lost yet, if one plan has failed then a good player makes another one.

Arnav says she should eat but Khushi is not hungry. Arnav tells Khushi to get changed, as he goes Khushi is still holding on to his hand. He sits down and she goes to get a box, she starts cleaning his wound and asks if its hurting, just by hiding the hurt doesn't go away (rabba ve playing) she can only see the hurt on his face, he cant hide his hurt from here, but it doesn't matter as he doesn't haven't to say anything as she understands as there are somethings that is hard to share but she will always be there for him. She puts her head on his shoulder, Arnav explains when he found out the truth he didn't know what to do, he was never able to speak about what happened to his mother, but that changed when she came to his life and was able to move on., but today his past came to present. Khushi replies that she understands that he can never forget about his past and will always be a part of his life, instead of running from his past to accept and make them a part of their life, and if he remembers them he should think they are with him. Arnav states she always knows how to change his mood.

There is a knock on the door NK and Akash have their eyes closed, Arnav asks what the matter is, NK stumbles and Akash wants to speak about work but NK stops him. Anjali doesn't let Khushi and Arnav be together until she gets her nekh (money) from Arnav as she is his sister and its her right. Arnav says he will give what she wants, Anjali states just like Khushi is important to her, they both are important to her and wants him to promise that he will keep Khushi happy.

NK states to tease and Payal states she has double haq as she is sister and Bhabi, Arnav gives in and tries to get them to leave, NK drops a plant and Khushi tells him to leave it and she will sort it out, it seems . Anjali gets them all to leave. Shyam is trying to see what is happening. As Khushi is cleaning, Arnav calls her, shyam seems scared that Arnav has noticed the camera, but it seems that Arnav hasn't noticed anything. Anjali then comes in and asks if he wants coffee, he replies he doesn't and quickly closes the laptop. Anjali asks if he is okay, he looks tired and concerned, Shyam says he will only be a little longer, she goes to make some coffee. He opens the laptop and wonders where Arnav and Khushi have got to.

Khushi asks what the matter is and why he texted telling her to act like nothing has happened and come out here to the poolside, Arnav explains that someone is watching them, Khushi is shocked and informs he saw a camera in the bouquet, Khushi asks who it could be, Arnav doesn't know but someone wants to keep and eye on them, Khushi asks what they should do, he replies they should act like nothing has happened and keep an eye out, he suspects someone but wont do anything without proof. Khushi trusts him. Anjali comes and enquires what husband and wife are doing outside, Khushi said she wanted to stay outside with Arnav for a little while, Anjali replies that Shyam is the same and is not able to sleep either he is glued to the laptop, both Arnav and Khushi are shocked to hear this.

Anjali leaves coffee for them both. Khushi asks Arnav if they are thinking the same thing, but they don't have proof, Arnav states that they will find the truth, he is a low person and can do anything, he wants to keep and eye on them. Khushi enquires how come no one knew about the cameras, and wonders there must be a button or wires somewhere, Arnav then recalls that NK enquired about wires before. Khushi is shocked, Anrav stating Shyam is using Anjali and she cannot see anything. Arnav then recalls the bill where under Anjali's card there was some camera ordered, he realises that Shyam must have bought them.

Shyam is still looking through the camera and wondering what is happening and where the both of them went off to, there were cameras everywhere and wonders where they could be.

Arnav states that he must have the information somewhere, he replies they must get into his room, Khushi asks how, he doesn't know but for the time being they need to act like they no nothing but stay alert.

Precap:

Khushi and Arnav get ready for bed and they hide under the covers. Khushi states she likes this, and Arnav enquires what and she replies them both and their little world together

Then and Now: September

Every time I do these posts, I think that it doesn't seem that long since I did the last one, even though a month has gone by. I have had many people tell me that as you get older the time goes by more and more quickly. Well stop it. Stop it now.

As you know, I like to recap my last month with a comparison to what I was doing last year at this time. It started when I could say, "Last year at this time I was traveling in ____". Now I can't say that, but it's still fun to look back and see what things have changed and which ones stay the same. Without further ado, here are the Who, the What and the Where for September 2011 vs 2012.

My favorite September book in 2011 was probably The Guernsey Literary Potato Pie Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. In 2012, I really enjoyed Emergency Sex by Ken Cain, Andrew Thompson and Heidi Postlewait, which is about being in some seriously dangerous countries while working for the UN during the 90s.

In 2011, I was training for a half marathon in September. This year, I am training for a marathon. However, it is still a surprisingly high amount to me, even though I did run two 20+ runs this month.

Raced:
2011: 2 / 2012: 3

In 2011, I ran my first half marathon since 2009 (see photo above with Dad). After that, I went to MN and raced a great 10 miler with Lisa and Raquelita (see photo above)! In 2012, I ran Mommy Run Fast's  Labor Day Virtual 10 mile and Labor Day Virtual 5 mile  as well as joining up with a friend, and thousands of Giant's fans for the Giant Race!

As you can see, last year I traveled more than this year. Nearly every weekend in September I went somewhere. I went to MA the first weekend, Dad came for the race the next, then it was MN, then Kansas City the last weekend! This year I have stayed closer to home!

I also met a lot of new friends both years. Last year it was Lisa and Raquelita; this year it's some new running buddies, new people at work and new local folk.  September in both years have been busy with running! This year I feel as if I have more time to foster old friendships as well as making new. Last year with the traveling and working away from home, I felt as if I were doing the opposite and losing touch with old friends, even as I was making new ones. So this year has been a welcome change in that aspect!
