A History of Bahrain through the National Museum

Yesterday, I visited the Bahrain National Museum in Manama for the first time in a year and I can just tell you, it was brilliant. The museum had sections on Dilmun (Bahrain's earliest name, discussed in previous posts here and here),  Tylos (Bahrain's Greek name), Islamic-era Bahrain.The arts & crafts section details life in Bahrain in the pre-oil era prior to the 1930s. The ancient document & manuscripts section was my favourite, to be honest. From gold-covered Qur'ans to documents from the Bahrain Theatre's charity night and Bahrain's first newspaper, I was truly amazed. Perhaps the spookiest but most-visited section of the museum is the 'Hall of the dead', a room with reconstructed (and actually-moved) burial mounds.

I've taken loads of photos from my phone (and tweeted them), so mind you the quality isn't brilliant. Feel free to reuse the images, I'm releasing them into the public domain.

If you ever get the chance to visit the museum, I strongly recommend that you do. The entry fee is a meager 500 fils (plus the ticket comes with a postcard!), there's also an art exhibition there so if you're one for the arts, you simply must go! I spent hours in the museum and to be quite honest, it was time well spent.

Current Celebrity Crush - Tom Colicchio (when I googled to find a photo, I found this! Haha. I have never seen him with hair!) There is just something about a guy that can cook. He is sometimes a bit sarcastic, but then he will say something so nice 2 minutes later.

Current Drink -  Creamsicle -- 8 oz Orange Juice, 2 tbsp plain yogurt, ice. Blend up and enjoy!

Current Excitement -  This weekend K and A and the babe are coming to have a beach day with us! I can't wait to take them to my favorite burrito place! Or maybe that pupusa place I have been wanting to try.

Current fashion trend - I bought a couple of brightly colored tops, which I wear with jeans when I am feeling frisky. I wear it with these shoes.

Current Favorite Blog/Website - You've probably already heard of it, but I really love Read it Later, which is now called Pocket. It allows you to "bookmark" a page to read later offline or transfer to your eReader to read at a later date. It is also very easily searchable. I use it a ton! 
 
Current Favorite Film - I went to the movies and saw To Rome With Love. It was okay but not great. Other than that, I haven't seen a movie in AGES. 

Curent Food - Steel cut oats. I have them almost every day for breakfast. With whatever fresh fruit I have on hand, plus craisins, chia and sesame seeds, it's so good!

Current Guilty Pleasure - Booze. I normally don't drink very much, but lately I have had a few nights where there have been one too many glasses of wine. It's been great but it's making me a lot less motivated to run the next day!

Current Indulgence - Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee. I am still trying to figure out how to order though. Since when does "light on the cream" mean EXTRA cream?

Current Mood - Good!

Current New Find - The store down the street from me has the best bulk aisle. They have pretty much anything you could ask for -- spices, baking products, herbs, nuts, seeds, grains...you name it. It's so great when I need a bit of cinnamon for a recipe to be able to just get $0.13 worth!

Current Outfit -  Right now? I am in my pajamas. Pants are overrated.
Current Peeve -  People who are untidy/unorganized. I had a dream last night about it. I started a new job as a manager and the place I took over was a mess! 
Current Song - I have that Payphone song stuck in my head. I don't LOVE it, but there it is.

Current Triumph - I ran every day this week so far. I know it's only Wednesday, but I will take my triumphs where I can get them! 
Current TV Show - Top Chef Season I

Current Wish-List - I want a new iPhone. Little by little, things on mine are slowing down/stopping.

Currently Delaying - Buying a new iPhone. I figure I will use the old one until it's gone completely.

Diya Aur Baati Hum continues to be the leader of the trp race gaining 5.9 trps followed by Balika Vadhu with 4.3 trps and CID with 4.0 trps.
Reality show DID L'l Masters gained 4.0(sun) and 5.2(sat) TRPs this week. Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate gained 2.1 Trp for Star Plus and 2.7 trp for all the 9 channels. Colors tv's dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 - Dancing with the stars gained 2.1(sun) and 2.8(sat). Fear Files gained 3.9 Trps for Saturday and 4.1 Trps for Sunday. 
Star Plus continues to be on the top of the GEC race with 276 GRP followed by Zee TV with 253 and Colors with 230 GRP this week.

Firefox 14 Yayımlandı, Hemen İndirin!

Mozilla, Firefox 13'ten 1.5 ay sonra yeni sürümünü yayımladı. Firefox 14 ile birlikte Mac kullanıcıları tam ekran moduna da sonunda kavuşuyor.



İnternet tarayıcıları arasındaki rekabet arttıkça artık bizim bile sayamadığımız hızda güncellemeler yayımlanmaya başladı. Firefox'un geçtiğimiz aylarda yayımlanan 13 sürümünden sonra çok geçmeden şimdi de Firefox 14 sürümü resmi olarak yayımlandı.



Yeni sürümle birlikte Google aramalarında HTTPS kullanmak mümkün oluyor. Awesome Bar da adres yazarken otomatik tamamlama yapabiliyor. Mac OS X Lion kullanıcılarına ise tam ekran kullanma özelliği geliyor. Mac OS X Lion'ın geçtiğimiz sene çıktığını ve rakiplerinden Safari ile Chrome'un o günden beri desteklediğini düşünürsek bu hamle Mac kullanıcıları için epey geç kalınmış durumda.

I love eating and making delicious sweets. One of my favourite sweets is jalebis and I am going to tell you about the secret ingredient that I use for my jalebi recipe. Here is how you too can make tasty jalebis.
Jai Devi Maiya, how are all of you doing? Recently I went to buy some household things from the market and on the way I spotted Chandu halwayi's shop. You all know what a special bond I share with sweets, whenever I am sad or angry I just have to see and eat sweets and all my problems immediately vanish. For me ladoos, barfi, rasmalayi and jalebis are my companions during happy times and even sad times as they lift my mood up.
As I entered the sweet mart, I looked around and saw the sweet maker about to fry jalebis in the same oil that he had just used for the samosas. I could not tolerate such a thing as it is unhealthy to do this and the jalebis also do not taste good. I yelled at the sweet maker and explained to him that he should not use the same oil to fry the jalebis. Making jalebis is not a game but it is an art and to develop expertise in any art form, first we need to respect it.
I believe that I make the best jalebis simply because I use good quality milk, sugar, maida and oil. I do not cut costs by using stale oil that has been used before as this will not bring a good taste to the jalebis. I use all the ingredients in the required quantity without adding too much or too little of anything. I make the sweets with a lot of love and this is the most important ingredient. When one adds love to their recipe, it is bound to be the most delicious sweet in the world. If you eat the sweets made by me, you will definitely yearn for more.
