It’s Not All about Losing Weight!
It is amazing to us how many people put weight loss on the top of their New Year’s Resolution list. Glancing back at many of our posts from this year it is obvious we aren’t as concerned with losing weight as we are with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I was pleasantly surprised to see Staying Fit and Healthy at number five last year, because this is truly our holiday wish for you. While losing weight may be important to your overall health, by eating healthy, exercising regularly and living a more active live you will lose weight.Beating the Resolution Struggles
The sad part is while many people start off strong they quickly get discouraged and quit. We have all seen the influx of new people at the gym during January only to see it fade. For some they are disappointed in not getting immediate results, others have issues making it a priority in their schedule and some really weren’t committed in the first place. It is always hard to make a change the will affect your life, but sometimes we make it more difficult than it needs to be.Just Get There!
Honestly, even the most fit people you see every day have mornings where they just don’t want to go to the gym. They’re tired, busy and dealing with kids as well. What makes them different is they just get there. I have found that the most successful people start small. Perhaps you haven’t worked out in a while, find a friend that also wants to be in better shape and become accountable to one another. The mere fact that you are meeting them there will give you added incentive.Pick a time of day that works for you. You don’t have to work out at 5:00 am to become healthy. In fact, if you hate getting up early the chances are you won’t show up anyway. Instead of grabbing a big burger or microwaving processed food at lunch, meet at the gym for a 45 minute workout. Schedule it on your calendar as if it were your boss. Once you get into the routine and start go feel better you ‘ll quickly find yourself looking forward to your workouts.
Have Fun!
One of the most common issues I see is people jump into a routine as if they’ve been exercising daily for years. This leaves them sore and discouraged. Start slow. Walk on the treadmill, don’t run. Do an exercise that you enjoy. Bring along music and dance if you need to. Becoming healthy can and should be fun.If you have questions, get help from one of our personal trainers and always remember you are in a safe place here.
