Re-Re-Re-Read Me!
One of the bloggers I follow, Hula Seventy, did a list project and one of her lists really inspired me. What books can you read over and over? My list is below.
1. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith (one of my all time favorites)
A little girl who loves to read, growing up in Brooklyn with an alcoholic father who spends all the money for food on booze and a hardworking mother who puts up with it, she somehow rises above. Plus she reads all the books in the library, one by one. My hero.
2. The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger
Although it switches back and forth a little, I was still able to follow the story of a little girl who finds a naked time traveler in her father's field. Enough said.
3. Les Miserables - Victor Hugo (I've still never seen the play -- it's on my Life To-Do List)
France. The Revolution. A man goes to jail for stealing a loaf of bread and some candlesticks. He turns out to not be a bad guy after all.
4. Capitan Correlli's Mandolin - Louis de Berniers
Greece. WWII. A native Greek girl from a small island meets a rouge Italian during the Italian occupation. . Plus this book has my name in it. See if you can find it.
5. The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien
Goblins, Hobbits, Dragons, Greed, Courage, Friendship and more. You know what this book is about. (I can't wait to see what Jackson does with the movie)
6. Anne Frank, The Diary of A Young Girl - Anne Frank
The Netherlands. WWII. The diary of a young Jewish girl hidden from the Germans during the Nazi occupation.
7. Little Women - Louisa May Alcott
This book is about so many sisters and much silliness, but you love them and by the end you will wish they were part of your family.
8. To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee
A book about a young girl living in the south talks about race and inequality but in a way that is not offensive. She also addresses courage and understanding.
9. The Stolen Child - Keith Donohue
A child gets stolen by hobgoblins and learns to adapt to his new family. In his place, a fake child is left with his original family. Years later, their paths intersect again.
10. Wicked - Gregory McGuire
The Wizard of Oz, but instead of from Dorothy's perspective, you see things through the eyes of the Wicked Witch of the West. In the end, you hate Dorthy and her little dog and are friends with the witch. I love how he twisted the classic version into something different.

Missoni Madness
I had some requests to recount how I fared at the Missoni for Target sale. I have to say this is one of the few times I have been excited enough to get up early to brave a sale. Usually I get really excited when the design collaboration is announced and realize I missed the sale the day after it happens. I guess the allure of Missoni kept this sale on my radar.
As many of you know, the website was down for many hours, with only periodic openings of being able to get on the site even as of this writing. After not being able to get on the site in the morning, I hopped in my car and made it to Target a few minutes before it opened. Dallas is a shopping town, so I expected throngs of people. Thousands of people arrived even going so far as spending the night at the mall waiting for the opening of Dallas's first H&M a few weeks ago. This baffled me, but Missoni is a one shot deal so I thought it would be even more of a mob scene.
To my surprise, there were only about 35 people waiting at the door. My aunt later relayed that there were 170 people at the Palm Beach Target where all the Palm Beach ladies stormed a Target in a less affluent neighborhood and went wild trading items from cart to cart. However, this crowd while small were focused. They pretty much snatched up all the inventory within 15 minutes. When I went at the end of the day to return a few items so I could look at my receipt without cringing, everything was gone, replaced by the usual Target items, like it was all a figment of my imagination.
My favorite scores: infinity scarf, shaker with martini glasses, and towels.
My misses: the flats. After hitting Home and Clothes the flats were sold out in smaller sizes at 8:07 am.
Anyone else want to share their Missoni for Target experience? I would love to hear about it, this whole phenomenon fascinates me.

CORRPUT, more corrupt and most corrupt. This seems to have become the commonest way in which the people of Karnataka distinguish the scam-tainted politicians and bureaucrats of the State. In recent months, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suffered major embarrassments with several seasoned and influential politicians being indicted by the Lokayukta (ombudsman) on charges ranging from corruption and misuse of office for personal gain to criminal trespass and misconduct, causing loss to the exchequer, forgery, and stashing away black money in tax havens abroad.
In August, a court in Bangalore issued summons to B.S. Yeddyurappa in connection with 16 cases of corruption. Yeddyurappa was forced to quit as Chief Minister on July 31 after the Lokayukta report indicted him in a massive illegal mining scam. His two sons, one of whom is a BJP Member of Parliament, have been asked to appear in court in connection with illegal land deals. The same court sent former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu to judicial custody on charges of irregularities in the payment of compensation for acquisition of land by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board. His son Katta Jagadish, a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike councillor, was also sent to judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected. Jagadish had been arrested in October last year for allegedly bribing a witness in the case, but was later bailed out. Another BJP Minister in trouble is C.P. Yogeshwar. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SIFO) of the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs has accused him of corporate fraud, criminal conspiracy, forgery and cheating and has recommended criminal prosecution. The SIFO investigated complaints against Megacity (Bangalore) Developers and Builders Limited, of which Yogeshwar is the managing director.
